Good for your neighborhood!

We try to make it a rule of thumb, no pun intended, to bring in retail items that are eco friendly, American made and generally good for the Earth. We produce vegan wine and recycle, recycle, recycle in our tasting room. Could it be… we have a little Northern California love child mentality in all of us here at thumbprint?

Did you know that according to Cyrill Penn of Wine Business Monthly, "While there are more than 300 million cases of wine sold in the U.S. each year, virtually none of those bottles are reused? An increasing number are recycled, but most--EPA has estimated 70 percent--end up in landfills."

70 percent of all wine bottles end up in landfills, according to the Environmental Protection Agency??? Well that certainly adds to the carbon footprint of the wine industry! Beyond that, did you know that a glass bottle takes more than 4,000 years to decompose in a landfill!?

How does this tangent relate back to our retail sales here at thumbprint? Two combined words… BottleHood! I was so excited when we came across BottleHood, an up and coming business based out of San Diego California. BottleHood’s concept is simple, idealistic and flat out brilliant… to repurpose bottles for the good of our environment!

BottleHood’s glassware is made from wine, beer, liquor and soda bottles recycled from restaurants, bars, homes and events. The repurposed tumblers, juice glasses, vases and light fixtures are all eco-friendly and sustainable. Created out of a passion to create local jobs, stimulate our local retail economy and help our environment. BottleHood’s success is a reflection of neighborhood sentiment and support for what BottleHood stands for...a pride in our neighborhood, our local craftsmen and entrepreneurs, and our social responsibility.¹

thumbprint cellars and BottleHood have developed a wonderful working relationship which has resulted in an amazing product that we are excited to carry in our Downtown Healdsburg tasting room and here on our website. Our thumbprint tumblers are made with our new release wine bottles (have you seen them… one big giant thumbprint on the front) and they look amazing!

You might just want to order a set for your personal collection… because after all they are Good For Your Neighborhood!!

Cheers and Peace,
